Even for the most careful of cooks, a kitchen space needs to be protected with the use of wall tiles or a glass splashback to prevent food stains and a build-up of dirt and grime. While hygiene and durability are two key considerations when examining the options for splashbacks, style should also be considered to ensure balance with the rest of the kitchen and home is maintained.
Kitchen splashbacks explained
Kitchen splashbacks have been designed to capture any extra grease, grime and dirt that are common for areas in the kitchen such as around the sink and stovetop. For hygiene and cleaning, both tiles and glass will require their gaps to be sealed. For wall tiles, which are already resistant, grouting can be sealed to prevent moisture uptake and maintain hygiene. Glass typically comes in panels and requires sealing for joins such as for power outlets and to prevent mould or bacteria forming in the gap between the glass and the wall.
Benefits of wall tiles over splashbacks
Ceramic wall tiles are durable and heat resistant which means they are able to withstand far higher temperatures than anything the stovetop or oven can produce. Due to the high amount of activity that occurs in a kitchen space, accidents such as glass chipping are likely to occur. A chipped tile can be fixed by simply replacing the damaged tile, whereas an entire glass splashback will need to be removed and replaced which is both costly and inconvenient.
Wall tiles are also more adaptable to current home interiors than glass splashbacks. While splashbacks do come in a variety of colours, they will not be able to match tiles that have been used in other areas of the house, whereas tiles will.
For the glass look without the price and lead time try the glossy and mirror-like Crystal Orange tile. Available in 7 colours.

When choosing ceramic tiles in Perth you are not only selecting a type of flooring, but joining a tradition in home building that has been used for thousands of years around the world.
Ceramic tiles are one of the oldest flooring materials in human civilisation, which was first mastered in ancient Egypt over 4000 years ago. Of course, while the scale and techniques have been improved and refined with the passing of time, the basic process and materials would still be recognisable to the original artisans.
While ancient Mediterranean and Mesopotamian civilisations were developing and using tiles for building and decorating, similar developments were also occurring in the Middle East with a different type of white clay producing the first porcelain. As trade occurred, ideas on design and processes of production spurred development from solid colour glaze using cobalt in Islamic mosaics, to later metal oxide glazes throughout Europe, Spanish majolica and Dutch delft.
Ceramics came to Australia well after the arrival of European settlers with the first records of ceramic tile production in the late 1800s. Ceramic tiles quickly flourished with the arrival of more European migrants after the Second World War and spread to all states and territories.
Today, professional bodies in each state and territory have combined to form a national council to uphold standards and provide quality assurance for Australian customers of one of the world’s oldest and still most popular building products.

Ceramic tiles have been used for over 4000 years. Naturally, there have been a few changes in the production techniques. Once painstakingly made by hand, ceramic tiles in Perth can now be produced in vast quantities using the latest industrial technology. This video looks at the process of how the tiles are made.
The main ingredient of ceramic tiles in Perth is clay, a type of dirt that provides the elasticity that allows the tiles to be moulded into shape. The addition of two further natural materials, calcium carbonate and feldspar, adds strength and durability.
First, the clay mixture is combined with water in large mills and tumbled and pounded until the clay is reduced to a thin mud, the consistency of a liquid paste.
Next, the mud is dried using a large fan blasting hot air to force out the moisture, leaving a clay residue in powder form. This clay powder is sifted into moulds and using a hydraulic press the powder is compressed using extreme force to produce the raw tiles.
The ceramic tiles are then buffed to remove any loose particles to prepare them for glazing. The smoothed tile is immersed in a glaze made of silica, another natural material, which melts during firing into a glassy surface that prevents scratches and stains. A second glaze may be added, to give colour and texture to the tiles.
Finally, the ceramic tiles are ready for firing and placed inside a kiln where temperatures reach 1000 degrees Celsius. This intense heat ensures the component ingredients bond fully for great strength and melts the glaze for the protective seal.

If you are fond of decorating your home with contemporary, loft style interiors then Cemento floor tiles in Perth are going to work wonders for your home. As the name suggests, Cemento is a style of floor tiles in Perth that are similar in appearance to polished concrete, which gives a home a very refined and industrial look, and is preferable over other flooring options in more ways than one.
1 – Fashionable
The design of Cemento is perfect to complement the sleek and polished look of minimalist or industrial style furniture and fittings. Available in a satin finish and two colour options, Cemento is right on trend with the very latest in interior design.
2 – Durable
Concrete and Cemento floor tiles in Perth share the characteristic of being extremely hardwearing and durable. However, unlike concrete, Cemento doesn’t require sealing or resealing, and any damage can be fixed by simply replacing the damaged tile as opposed to a whole concrete floor.
3 – Little to no maintenance
Cemento is completely stain resistant which makes it ideal for use in kitchens, bathrooms and living rooms. No special cleaners are required, just a broom or micro-fibre cloth will remove dirt and mopping will restore the sheen.
4 – Slip resistant
Stained and polished concrete floors are extremely smooth and consequently very slippery. Ceramic floor tiles in Perth on the other hand have a glaze added in production which provides an extra grip and slip resistance.
5 – Cost
Cemento tiles require minimal maintenance and are built to last. While the initial cost of concrete is modest the addition of polish, stain or acid cut is expensive and will require sealing and resealing to prevent cracking or fading. Always compare the life cycle cost and not just the initial installation cost.
